Why I do this

My love of building and homesteading began in 2018 after the Eagle Creek Fire ravaged one of my favorite places in the world, the Columbia River Gorge. I became fascinated and horrified by the effects of climate change, and quickly found a passion for sustainable agriculture and permaculture. After working on several farms, I bought 24 acres of agricultural land to start my journey as a farmer. I was ecstatic. And then I realized I was in over my head and couldn’t get my farm off the ground.

I used my experience fixing up the land and buildings to renovate my next property, where I focused on making a small-scale urban homestead in Portland Oregon. I installed a greenhouse, pole barn, grape vines, orchard, vegetable garden, and root cellar. I turned an overgrown 1/3 acre property into a place where friends would come visit to press apples in the fall, learn how to build small projects, and join in on whatever crazy idea I had at the moment.

I soon began building sheds and other projects for friends and family, and found that I love to bring the magic of urban homesteading into other peoples’ lives.
